Renske van der Veer is the Director of the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) in The Hague, a think-and-do-tank that provides research and evidence-based policy advice, training and (capacity building) projects on all matters counter-terrorism (CT) and preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) with a special focus on rule of law.
Van der Veer has over 10 years of experience in the field of CT and P/CVE. She has worked in CT and P/CVE on various levels, locally, nationally and internationally, for instance in municipalities and international fora, worked operationally in the intelligence community, as an analyst and researcher on jihadist terrorism, served as deputy head of unit and coordinating policy advisor at the Dutch National Coordinator for Security and Terrorism (NCTV), and worked with the Dutch national police.
Her specialisms include modus operandi of terrorist attacks, profiles and drivers of terrorists, and assessments of ‘what works in the CT practice’ when it comes to countermeasures. She is also an experienced programme, project and people manager.
